The Marabana Havana half and full marathon and 10K is a bucket list race that allows runners to explore Havana on their own two feet, and along side our Cuban running friends. If that’s not enough to entice you to run the race, here are ten more reasons.
Running has a way of bridging the gap and connecting our active souls. Running transcends all, and from start to finish, you’ll set a new tone together as you share the roads with our Cuban running friends.
In addition to the Marabana Havana Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K, there is also one of the most festive shake out runs in the world. The Maracuba is a fun 2K race that is hosted across the country in celebration of health and fitness. It begins with salsa at the start, and runs through the streets of Old Havana giving you a preview of the race course.
Bring your camera. The race runs through Old Havana, known for its famous Spanish colonial architecture and also deemed a UNESCO Heritage site.
Breath in the ocean air and the scenery as you run along Havana’s flat and fast seaside Malecón, home to the city’s most precious architecture.
Run by the city’s many monuments and sites including the Capitol, Revolution Square and the third largest fort in the America’s, the Fortaleza de San Carlos de la Cabaña, the famous fort at the mouth of Havana harbor.
There is no better way to recover from a race than to try a little Cuban Salsa dancing, also known as Salsa Rueda de Casino. “Rueda” means wheel and describes the circular pattern of the dance moves, and “Casino” is known as Salsa. The sound is called timba, a fast-paced salsa with a strong afro-cuban influence.
Run back in time.
Run back in time and among thousands of vintage American cars manufactured before the revolution and embargo in 1960.
You’ll feel the rhythm of the nation as you hit the streets of Havana. The world-famous music scene is one of Cuba’s greatest draws. Take in a show at the Tropicana Club, a world-known cabaret.
Celebrate your race with dinner at La Floridita, one of Hemingway’s favorite spots for drinking daiquiris, and a nightcap at the famous oceanfront Hotel Nacional.
Create a new movement.
Running the Marabana Havana Half and full marathon and 10K is a new opportunity for American runners. As you toe the line, you’re creating a new movement together. One that will set the pace for runners in the future to push beyond our past, and create new relations. Be a part of the #RunCuba movement.
