Take in a performance by La Andariega Children’s Theater Company, then meet the young actors, their parents and benefactors.
Children embody the spirit of Cuba – sourcing their beliefs and way of life from family, teachers, and the community. At the La Andariega Children’s Theater Company in Camagüey, all of the above come together in the arts. We’ll watch a performance, then enter a discussion with the kids and their community.
Cuban Theater Overview
Cuban theater companies are spread across the island, specializing in shows from classical to avant-garde. And each of the island’s fifteen provinces features an adult and children’s company. Although bolstered in recent decades by state investments in arts education, the Cuban performing arts have a long pre-revolution history going back to the early 1700s.
In La Andariega’s production, we’ll see the past and future coming together. This extraordinary group of children has entertained both locally and abroad with international performances, including tours in Germany and Switzerland.
