Our Girl in Havana: Single Female Traveler

Most men I meet in Cuba say the same thing to me: “Why are you travelling alone? Where is your husband?” I vary my answer just to make it more interesting; I have a whole harem of imaginary husbands now. Us solo female travelers may be a rare breed here, but that’s not to say it isn’t a good country to visit as a woman.

Recipe of the Week: Cuba Libre cocktail

Although the invention of this popular drink may vary, one thing is certainly for sure; it’s a real Cuba classic! Whether it was made during or after the Spanish-American war, we can all agree that a Cuba Libre (translated as "Free Cuba") is one desired by many!

 

Ingredients:

  • 2 oz light rum
  • juice of 1/2 limes
  • Coca-Cola

About: Yuca is a root vegetable that is widely used throughout the Caribbean. Also known as cassava, yucca can be used in soups, in stews, as a side dish or even enjoyed alone such as this recipe.

Total Time: 50 minutes
