The name of this popular dish dates back to the 8th century when the Moors invaded Spain. The black beans symbolize the Moors & the white rice the Christians. This easy to make and even easier to enjoy recipe is sure to be a hit at your dinner table. Serve it with ropa vieja, vaca frita or by its tasty self!

Recipe of the Week: Arroz con Leche

Warm, creamy and deliciously sweet, arroz con leche is one of the many desserts that Cubans can’t get enough of. Whether you prefer the classic recipe or like to add your own special ingredients (nuts, fruits, etc) this tasty treat is sure to put a smile on your face!

•1/2 cup Rice

•1 Cinnamon stick

•Lemon rind

• 4 cups Milk

•1 cup Sugar

• 1 tsp. Vanilla extract

Recipe of the Week: Tostones

Talk about an addictive snack! Tostones are a quick and easy snack/side dish that is loved by many Cubans and other Caribbean islands. Not only are they tasty and crispy but they’re also fun to make-who knew smashing bananas was such a stress reliever.

Recipe of the Week: Lechón Asado (Roast Pork)

If you’re familiar with Cuban cuisine you know that pork is a major staple in most recipes. Pork sandwiches, pork appetizers even pork flavored beverages, just kidding! The point is, Cubans love pork and a great recipe that is sure to get you in the Cuban state of mind is lechon asado. Traditionally, the entire pig is roasted over an open fire and cooked until the skin has the right amount crunch- a great method for those summer barbeques.

Recipe of the Week: Enchilado de Camarones

You can’t get more authentic than enchilado de camarones, which is a Cuban-Creole shrimp stew.  Combining the Cuban cuisine with Haiti’s moderately spicy ingredients, this recipe mirrors the duality of the Afro-Cuban culture. Usually served over a bed of rice this tasty delight can be paired with Cuban bread or avocado salad.
